Luis Antonio Victoria Dominguez now faces federal government charges as he tried to break through the cockpit in a flight departing Los Angeles International Airport and jump off its emergency exit. The 33-year-old man from Mexico’s La Paz city was traveling on a recent flight of United Airlines from LA to Utah’s Salt Lake City.

As per the Federal Bureau of Investigation, to get into the cockpit, the man ran to the front of the flight and tried to open its locked door. The man failed to get into the said area of the flight, and he then ran to its right-side emergency exit. He managed to open that emergency door to an extent, which triggered the emergency escape slide to deploy just partly.

Passengers failed to restrain the man, who then jumped off the plane and sustained a leg injury.

The FBI also said that Dominguez started to crawl away from that aircraft after landing on the take-off area at the airport. At that time, the man’s right leg seemed broken.

This is the second time someone tried breaching the cockpit in a plane departing the airport in June. Earlier this month, another person was arrested for an unsuccessful breach. The airborne plane was going to Nashville during the earlier incident, where its attendants were able to apprehend the person and force a prioritized landing in New Mexico’s Albuquerque city.

The federal charge that Dominguez faces has a statutory penalty of up to twenty years in a prison operated under the federal government’s jurisdiction.
