The LAPD recently explained the South Los Angeles explosion, which was intended as a controlled firework detonation. Of the approximately 2250 kilograms of fireworks that LAPD officers seized, about 4.5 kilograms of homemade products were put in the department’s bomb squad vehicle. X-ray machines and a machine that mimics the action of our arm were used to analyze the fireworks, which technicians deemed too risky to transport.

Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department, namely Michel Rey Moore, described the operation as a failure. Moore also said that the LAPD is attempting to discover the reason for the event. It is not known what made the explosion happen near the LAPD Bomb Squad vehicle. Nevertheless, officials have confirmed that 17 people, including 9 officers, sustained injuries from it that are not life-threatening, whereas 9 families were moved from their residences.

Los Angeles Councilor Curren Price stated that an attempt is underway to ensure housing for those people for the next many nights.

Fire Chief of the Los Angeles Fire Department, Ralph Terrazas, said that scrapes, dizziness, cuts and ear-ringing were the issues faced by those who sustained the event. Terrazas clarified that all the injured people were moved to local medical centers.

Moore said that the measures and protocols of the LAPD’s bomb squad members would be reviewed when there is an ongoing investigation into the event. He said that it would be a comprehensive review of all steps and all components related to the incident. As for Moore, it is important to consider how old the bomb squad vehicle is and how its service has been.

People around the area were told to get in touch with the LAPD in the event of finding debris or remnants from the detonation in their residences.
