Uber Responds To Gas Price Hike With Fuel Surcharges

Uber has disclosed that there would be temporary surcharges for its delivery service and rideshare service from March 16, 2022, onwards. Uber uses the new charges as a way of responding to raised fuel rates across the nation. The company stated that it would apply the charges for 60 days at the least.

Uber riders can look forward to seeing a surcharge of around $0.50 per ride, according to their locations. Similarly, Uber will make the customer pay a surcharge of around $0.40 per Uber Eats order, which will go to their driver.

Fuel rates have been increasing across the US economy. Liza Winship, who heads Uber driver operations in Canada and the US, stated that it made Uber do its best to aid couriers and vehicle operators without putting an excessive burden on customers. Winship also said that Uber plans on focusing on feedback from customers, couriers and vehicle operators in the next few weeks. At the same time, Uber will keep tracing gas rate movements to decide whether it should make more changes.

Uber stated that the company would reassess after using the surcharges for 60 days.

Earlier in 2022, the average rate per gallon of standard-grade gasoline was around $5.50 in California, over a dollar up from a few days ago. At the same time, around $4.7 was the average rate per gallon. We could offer the above-mentioned figures thanks to data from AAA (American Automobile Association).
