Charges Brought Against Suspects In LAPD Officer’s Killing

Law enforcement charged four individuals in relation to the killing of a Los Angeles Police Department officer. They face VICAR charges, and these charges might contribute to punishment by execution or a minimum life imprisonment sentence with no chance of parole.

Luis Alfredo De La Rosa Rios, Ernesto Cisneros, Haylee Marie Grisham and Jesse Contreras are the four defendants who face the charges.

It is thought that Grisham is Rios’ lover as well as that Rio and the other two suspects belong to the so-called Florencia 13 gang.

As per DOJ, investigators from the Department of LAC Sheriff Alex Villanueva took the defendants into custody. The defendants are supposed to be moved to federal law enforcement custody on the morning of January 14, 2022, as per DOJ. According to the Justice Department, they may appear in front of the US District Court on the evening of the same day.

Officer Fernando Arroyos of the Los Angeles Police Department got shot to death as he shopped for homes on the night of January 10, 2022, in Florence-Firestone. The Los Angeles Police Department called the incident concerned an attempted robbery.

The recent robbery attempt allegedly saw Cisneros and Rios exit a pickup truck with guns as well as confront the officer and his lover. A shootout happened immediately after the suspects reportedly took the chains of the officer as the latter ran into a nearby alley and they flew.

Los Angeles Sheriff’s deputies took the officer to a hospital, but he was pronounced dead there.

Villanueva stated that he responded to the hospital in Los Angeles where his deputies transported the off-duty cop who got shot. As for Villanueva, there is little more dreadful and tragic than to take the phone call from the hospital. Villanueva assured that his department’s investigators would strive to hold the suspects accountable for the cowardly act.

With surveillance footage, that pickup truck was identified at a home around the shootout spot where Contreras carried Cisneros following what appeared to be an injury. It is thought that the suspects had been in the truck at the time of the incident.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Michael Garcetti joined everyone else in LA in mourning the death of the LAPD cop. Garcetti said that he would pray for Arroyos’ loved ones. Arroyos will live on in the minds of his parents and girlfriend.
