LAC Makes Vaccinations Mandatory For Healthcare Employees

Los Angeles County (LAC) has aligned itself with California’s orders with mandatory vaccination for healthcare employees. Therefore, every healthcare worker in LAC must get COVID-19 vaccination on September 30, 2021, or before the date.

In July 2021, California announced an ordinance with weekly coronavirus testing for people who decided to not get vaccinated. However, LAC and California have reversed that ordinance choice and will demand all healthcare employees get full vaccinations.

The mandate from Public Health extends to not just active healthcare facility workers but also volunteers, students, contractors, emergency medical technicians, dental office employees, paramedics, and residential healthcare staff.

LAC’s mandate will also have religious and medical exemptions, with the exempted staff supposed to take as many as two coronavirus tests weekly, according to the facility. The exempted people will also have to use N95 respirators or medical-grade face masks.

The California Department of Public Health requires exemption seekers to offer their employers written statements proving that they qualify for the said exemption and indicating their possible duration of the incapacity to get the vaccine. They should have the statement with the signature of a medical professional, who practices under a physician’s license, and without a description of their underlying disability or medical condition. Further, if they do not know the duration thereof, or it is permanent, each of those exemption-seeking workers should indicate it in their statement.

As per county and state regulations, the passage of two weeks after one dose of Janssen or two doses of Moderna or Pfizer’s vaccine will mean a full vaccination status.
